OrAlert Saliva Screening Device

LaneWorkSafe provide the OrAlert saliva screening device, testing for:

• Amphetamines at 50ng/ml
• Methamphetamines at 50ng/ml
• Cocaine at 20ng/ml
• Opiates at 40ng/ml
• Benzodiazepines at 10ng/ml
• Cannabis (THC) at 100ng/ml

Using a simple sponge collection device, samples are collected in approximately three minutes. The collector is placed into the testing device and rotated, evacuating the sponge, which commences the screening process. Results in approximately nine minutes.

In-built control lines indicate the device is functioning to the manufacturer's requirements. A visible line alongside each substance indicates a negative result. No visible line indicates a non-negative (positive) result. The remainder of the buffer solution maybe be forwarded for the purposes of confirmatory testing at an accredited Toxicology Laboratory.

With THC set at 100ng/ml, this provides an indication of recent use (approximately 4 hours prior to the test).

Each testing device and collection sponge are supplied in a sterile, individually sealed pouch.

Please note: It is essential that when using any saliva drug detection device that the collector ensure that the donor has had nothing in their mouth for approximately 10 minutes prior to testing.

The Atago Pen Urine Specific Gravity Refractometer uses the refractive index method to measure the specific gravity of urine. The specific gravity of urine varies according to concentration.

Dehydration has long been misunderstood by many facets of the Australian community, in particular the various workplaces that exist, sometimes being overlooked and dismissed as unimportant.

Things have changed and it is now recognised as a matter of concern. Persons who are in a dehydrated condition are more inclined to suffer physical tiredness at work, under perform including making poor decisions and suffering reduced reflex reaction times.

There is strong evidence that dehydration may lead to health issues including diabetes, high blood pressure, kidney disease and increase issues of poor digestion and other serious conditions.

Simply by increasing the intake of water the dehydration problem maybe eliminated. Responsible Employers and Managers should provide adequate clean drinkable water in the workplace and encourage employees to consume on a frequent and regular basis. Of course the provision of adequate toilet facilities is also vitally important.

The device is simply placed in the Urine specimen and the START button pushed once. The Specific Gravity reading of the specimen wil be displayed. The reading will show a number in the LED screen with 4 numbers removed. This number should be read in conjunction with the number One (1) and the decimal point (.) shown on the left hand side of the LED Screen. This combination will form the reading. Eg. 1.0171. It is suggested that the shown number be interpreted by applying only three decimal places removed, therefore 1.0171, should be read as 1.017. Please read supplied instructions contained with Refractometer. No special skills required to operate device.

The device is easily cleaned using a dry clean tissue or run under clean water which at the same time calibrates the device.

Through on going education (provision of clean water and close toilets) as to the importance of increased water intake and occasional monitoring using the handheld device all employees' overall health and workplace safety can be improved. Simply, increasing the cycle, drinking water and urinating, overall Hydration levels can be raised.
